Anisongs are an integral part of watching anime. It’s the cherry on top for every series. When an opening is incredibly good and catchy, it sets the tone for the rest of anime and raises expectations that, perhaps, this anime is going to be amazing. What happens when one of the most anticipated anime of Fall 2021 has a catchy song? Yep, Honey’s Anime will write an article on it!
Komi-san wa, Komyushou desu. (Komi Can’t Communicate) is one of the most anticipated anime of Fall 2021 and it has been an amazing ride so far. Of course, the opening song “Cinderella” by CIDERGIRL really sets the tone for the anime and is beloved by everyone in the anime community. If you have never heard about CIDERGIRL, we’re here to introduce them to you!
CIDERGIRL is actually a three-person pop rock band that is filled with guys, unlike the name suggests. Yurin, Tomo and Fujimura created CIDERGIRL in 2014. Yurin is the main vocalist and guitarist while Tomo and Fujimura play guitar and bass respectively. They do not have a permanent drummer as they change their drummers often. Their band name was created to keep to the creed of exhilarating rush of carbonated bubbles that overwhelm the senses and die after a short period. This experience is usually found in a cider drink.
CIDERGIRL has recently taken over the anime scene with their ending song “ID” for Fire Force Season 2. They’ve finally received the recognition they deserve with Komi Can’t Communicate opening “Cinderella”. As the members of the band like to keep their public image to themselves, they often employ models to perform in their music videos as opposed to the tradition of the band performing themselves. These models are dubbed as “CIDERGIRL” like the name of the band and are more often than not, considered honorary fourth members of the band. CIDERGIRL has recently taken over the anime scene with their ending song “ID” for Fire Force Season 2. They’ve finally received the recognition they deserve with Komi Can’t Communicate opening “Cinderella” which is a part of their new album SODA POP FANCLUB 4.

CIDERGIRL’s songs emulate this feeling of drinking a cider drink very well as their songs are high-energy and give that exhilarating feeling but are also short and to the point. This sound that CIDERGIRL’s songs have is dubbed the “carbonated” sound because of the high tempo and already gives them an edge in the already crowded market of Japanese pop-rock. A perfect example of this “carbonated” sound can be found in their song “Melancholy” where the melody feels like tiny carbonated bubbles that pop through the video, making it a unique experience. This feeling definitely makes us at Honey’s Anime want to take another “sip” of their music.
Of course, their opening for Komi Can’t Communicate, “Cinderella”, also has that slow bubbly start of drinking soda and slowly builds up keeping the high energy and cheery feeling steady throughout the anime. The lyrics for Cinderella highlights what Komi Can’t Communicate is about through its lyrics:

Even though I’m not very good with words
Would you like to come and see the cat together with me?
These little simple joys in our life
Why don’t we nurture them together?
This energy accompanied by the meaningful lyrics sets the tone for what Komi Can’t Communicate is all about. Moreover, the animation for the opening when Komi is falling to the ground and there’s a bloom of flowers evokes the same feeling of a ramune bottle being opened with fizz coming out. That’s why we at Honey’s Anime think that CIDERGIRL was the best band that could cover the opening of Komi Can’t Communicate which you can listen to below.

We hope you enjoyed this article! If you want a cheery and high-tempo band that has the feeling of anisong openings. CIDERGIRL is one band that should be on your radar. Don’t forget to check out their other hits like “Melancholy” which features Rina Onuki as their “Cider Girl”!
